All that castle hunting can be tiring, so to clear the mind and the senses, we headed for a little village called Holystone on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. It is home to the sacred site Lady’s Well.
A lovely, tranquil place surrounded by trees, this well was been associated with a respite stop along a Roman road and was also part of a Augustinian nunnery which no longer remains.
It’s good to stop for a while and let the batteries recharge in such a calming place. I brought a vial of the clear water, which is also the source of the town’s water supply, back with me to compliment my other holy waters.
