Window Shopping

The day after Thanksgiving may be the biggest shopping day in the United States, but December 8th has been known as the biggest shopping day in Ireland. It was and in some instances, continues to be the day when folk from the country head to the city to do their Christmas shopping.

Brown Thomas holds the title of best long term themed Christmas window display; however, Arnott’s game them a run for their money this year. There are a few others worth noting that while mostly commercial, at least tried to make a theme out of it. Clery’s had some nice displays but all of them had a big TV screen in the middle, which made it nearly impossible to catch the scene behind. Even the Curiosity Charity Shop in Galway had a beautiful themed window (darn glare!).

In case you haven’t yet got your Ho Ho Ho on, here a bit of Window Shopping from Ireland to get you in the Holiday spirit. (Apologies for the glare, my point and shoot camera does its best…)

The Claddagh Ring Shop/Museum in Galway had this lovely old Victorian musical toy in the window.  The couples were actually waltzing around the dance floor. It was simply gorgeous.  Now that’s a Christmas decoration I would love to have.

Dublin also had a Bavarian style market set up along one of the streets on St. Stephen’s Green.  About half food items and the other crafts and wares, it really had a nice selection and I hope it continues.
