Cygnets 2013

Not quite the May Day Cygents of 2012, these little darlings were born a week or so ago.  However, they’re just as adorable as they paddled around, keeping close to Mum and Dad.

As I watched, I noticed what I assumed was the protective father, nipping at and chasing off any of the seagulls that got within two or three feet of the little darlings.  The cygnets kept very close to Mum (again, another assumption – male and female swans aren’t that easy to tell apart), not straying far from her side.

The nest where the tikes were born is barely visible; reeds have begun to sprout around it as it melts back into the environment.

I looked around to see if I could find the tiny ducklings from less than a month ago, but there were no fluffy little brown and yellow balls floating around.  As you can see below, they’d nearly grown already.

Nature changes so quickly.  The daffodils have taken their final bow as other flowers blossom to take their place.  Although summer is approaching, according to the calendar, the weather remains cool.  Not that I’m complaining, mind you – the cooler the weather the less often I have to mow the back garden…
