Peace on Earth………Please

I generally try to keep this blog upbeat, but in light of recent events in the U.S. and in honor of this special time of year I feel compelled to write these words.

There is no way I can ever wrap my head around anyone harming innocent little children, let alone shooting them as happened at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.  The pain the families of the victims must be going through at this blessed time of year is unimaginable.  Nor can I imagine the trauma the children who were witnesses to these horrific events must be experiencing.  My only consolation is the knowledge that children are generally resilient, but it’s a small consolation as a piece of their childhood has forever been taken away.

How many gifts had already been bought, wrapped, and hidden in anticipation of seeing the wide eyed joy of the recipients?  Gifts that now sit as thorns in the hearts of the givers.  How many stockings were hung with care; that will forever go empty?

With additional shootings in malls in Oregon and California in recent days, the world seems to have gone a bit mad.  Difficulties we may be experiencing in our own lives pale in comparison.

No matter what your religious affiliation and no matter which Deities you submit your intentions, if we all say a prayer for Peace on Earth maybe there will be, if not an end, at least a lessening of horrific events such as these.

May all of you be blessed with some degree of Peace at this sacred time of year.
