Celtic Earth

Naturally the name of this show at the Town Hall Theater intrigued me and made me explore further.  It was billed as a mixture of traditional, classical, and rock and roll; and it delivered on all levels.  There was the unmistakable traditional heartbeat but definitely kicked up a few notches in places.

Led by Gerard Fahy, former musical directory of Lord of the Dance, it featured a large band made up of both classical and modern instruments.  There was a traditional bass as well as the modern guitar-like variety; a full drum set as well as a set of bongos; and acoustic plus electric guitars.  To round out the doubles, there were two sets of keyboards.

Ger, as he’s called, is a multi talented composer and musician who infuses his performances with seemingly boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm for music as well as dance.   He alternated between various whistles, Uilleann pipes, and bouzouki.

The show also featured Mairin Fahy on fiddle and vocals; Morgan Crowley, former Riverdance singer; and many world renowned dancers including Siobhan Manson, Mary McDonagh, and Claire Greaney along with the Keaney brothers.

What a wonderful way to spend an evening.
